Bronx man alleges police brutality in stationhouse beating

EDENWALD, Bronx (WABC) -- Trojan Hart may have double vision for the rest of his life. His left eye socket is shattered after he says he was beaten in handcuffs in the 47th Precinct stationhouse.

Hart says it began when several police officers arrived at his home and confiscated speakers from his backyard barbecue after an alleged noise complaint.

When Hart's wife, Damaris protests, she is arrested. When Hart protests, he is arrested.

At the precinct, Hart is asked to remove his jewelry, but refuses to remove his earrings, a small necklace and his wedding band. The officers then say the chain has to come off. Hart responds by saying, 'the chain is not coming off!'

For a few moments, Hart says it is a standoff, until they try to remove the jewelry by force.

"My wife's ring - no, no no!" Hart could be heard saying.

Hart then says he was beaten vindictively. He and his attorney have filed a federal civil rights lawsuit. The officers charged Hart with assaulting them. He was later found not guilty, and charges against his wife were dropped.
