Up Close part 1

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The percentage of New Yorkers voting in the last couple of city elections is not exactly earning any good citizenship awards.

In the midterm election two years ago, 29% of eligible voters in New York State cast a ballot.

In the 2013 mayoral election, only 24% of registered voters went to the booth.

Now there is a big effort to jump-start a get out the vote campaign and increase voter turnout.

That campaign is being led by the five borough presidents, The League of Women Voters of the City of New York, and we here at WABC-TV.

Two of the five borough presidents join us this week: Gale Brewer of Manhattan and Ruben Diaz Jr. of the Bronx.

Also with us to discuss the week that was in presidential race politics are political analysts Doug Schoen and Hank Sheinkopf.
