New York's 11th Congressional District is two days away from a special election in to replace indicted former Rep. Michael Grimm, who resigned after pleading guilty to tax fraud.
It's the only district where, historically, Republicans have captured a house seat in New York City, and in this special election, its Republican Dan Donovan versus Democrat Vincent Gentile.
Donovan is district attorney on Staten Island.
When asked why he wanted to be a congressman, Donovan said spoke about family, especially his mother and a new baby coming in May.
"My mother's 88-years-old and has dementia, and there's people in Washington who want to break their commitment with her about her benefits for Medicare, Social Security," he said. "I have a chance now to make sure that those benefits are there for her family and for the families of your viewers and for the baby."
He stressed having a "chance to go to Washington and have an impact on my child's life and the lives of all the children."
