BRONX, New York (WABC) -- An off-duty NYPD officer was charged with having sex with an underage prostitute earlier this year.

Raul Olmeda, 40, was arrested early Tuesday morning. He's facing 67 counts in the indictment, including charges of using a child under the age of 17 in a sex performance, rape and patronizing a minor for prostitution.

Prosecutors said Olmeda repeatedly paid a teen girl for sex and videotaped her in multiple sexual acts.

"The defendant preyed on the vulnerable young woman and videotaped his demeaning and dehumanizing acts," District Attorney Darcel Clark. "It is especially disturbing that these crimes are alleged against a member of the NYPD."

NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill also spoke out against the alleged charges.

"The nature and scope of the charges in this indictment are egregious," he said. "The fact that the defendant is an NYPD officer evidences an unconscionable violation of his oath to uphold the law and protect the public."

Olmeda was assigned to the 42nd Precinct in the Bronx, but has been on modified duty.

His bail was set at $250,000. If convicted of the most serious charge, Olmeda could face up to 15 years in prison.
