Dept. of Environmental Protection kicks off 'Don't Trash Our Waters' to protect sea life

Amy Freeze explains how plastic litter can get into our waterways and negatively effect wildlife.

The Department of Environmental Protection is launching a new campaign called "Don't Trash Our Waters."

It turns out when our water bottles miss the recycle bins, it's not just trashy, it can kill sea life.

It's a problem complicated by heavy storm water runoff, leaving the only real solution right in the hands of whoever is holding the trash!

Meteorologist Amy Freeze went along for a ride with a crucial operation that helps to minimize plastics in the water and a message on what we can do to help.

In the spirit of protecting sea life, the New York Aquarium is offering free entrance for first 1,000 visitors this Saturday.
