Amy Freeze explains how plastic litter can get into our waterways and negatively effect wildlife.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The Department of Environmental Protection is launching a new campaign called "Don't Trash Our Waters."

It turns out when our water bottles miss the recycle bins, it's not just trashy, it can kill sea life.

It's a problem complicated by heavy storm water runoff, leaving the only real solution right in the hands of whoever is holding the trash!

Meteorologist Amy Freeze went along for a ride with a crucial operation that helps to minimize plastics in the water and a message on what we can do to help.

In the spirit of protecting sea life, the New York Aquarium is offering free entrance for first 1,000 visitors this Saturday.
