MALIBU, Calif. -- A possible 10-foot hammerhead shark bit a kayaker on the foot off the coast of Malibu Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said the shark attacked the man about 1 mile offshore near Deer Creek Road, just south of Point Mugu. The man, who friends identified as 29-year-old Dylan Marks, was airlifted to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. He is in stable condition.

Medical personnel said the bleeding was controlled.

No other attacks were reported.
