Police: Pregnant woman shot in face after visiting mom in the Bronx

BRONX, N.Y. (WABC) -- A woman was shot in the Claremont section early Wednesday morning.

The victim, who is pregnant, was shot in the face inside a building in the 3600 block of Third Avenue just before 4 a.m. One witness said he heard shots, then screaming.

The 20-year-old pregnant woman got into a dispute with her mother and some other women who were in a 14th-floor apartment. Her stepfather, 38, heard the commotion and tried to intervene; he had a gun. The gun went off while they were trying to settle the dispute.

The stepfather is in custody.

She was taken to Lincoln Hospital for a non-life threatening injury, and is stable.
