7 On Your Side: October Best Buys
7 On Your Side reporter Nina Pineda has the best deals for October shoppers

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Ghouls and goblins are out haunting houses but the biggest October fright? The price of anything Halloween.

"If you shop early you pay full price. If you wait for a week before your selections are limited." That timing trick's no treat says Ben Glaser of Dealnews.com, but October is a good time for gardeners.

"Columbus Day is a major sales for home and garden deals. And 20 percent of our deals were in home and garden," says Glaser.

Stow that fall harvest in a new fridge. Black Friday is the best time to buy new appliances but if you can't get one, then shop over Columbus Day weekend.

Also, discover floor samples and open box deals. The holiday also delivers deals on jeans and footwear.

Black Friday is also usually the best time for tech but Staples "October trade-in trade up event" gives you money to swap old stuff.

Also, another well-kept secret, October is the best time to book European travel.

But if you'd rather drive then fly, car dealer (and former New York Giants linebacker), Jessie Armstead says scout for giant deals on any cars this month.

Whether it's a Cadillac or a Camry the defensive stalwart says go on the offense and target 2016 model year since this is the month 2017's hit the showroom floor.

"One thing about October, you know what's coming behind it," says Armstead. "2017 is coming, and that means discounts on 2016s."

Remember - on the 2016's you have leverage. So ask for discounts and incentives.
