Talbots and Oprah Magazine team up with Dress for Success, helping women in workforce

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Two companies are coming together to help women in need.

Talbots and O, The Oprah Magazine have joined forces to launch an unprecedented spring collection that was created to support Dress for Success in an effort to empower more women in the workforce and help them thrive at work and in life.

Included in the line are the shirt never needs ironing and a spring dress that has pockets.

The pants are called Easy and the scarf is Ombre.

It is what happened when powerhouse people from Talbots teamed up with Oprah Magazine to raise money for Dress for Success.

"Not only suits but we also give professional advice," said Dress for Success Ambassador Karrin Blake.

Karrin went to Dress for Success to get gently used clothes and a job.

"I not only learned more employment, I learned more about myself", she said.

"Things to be proud of?", we asked. "Yes!", she said.

"This is reviewing the resume, sitting down in our career center with career specialists, coaching, mentoring and financial literacy," said Dress for Success CEO Joi Gordon.

Joi Gordon explains 30% of the profits from the Talbots line go to Dress for Success.

Plus bins will be in stores so customers can donate gently-used professional outfits.

Plus: "Whatever is not sold it will all be donated to us, but we want everything to sell," said Gordon.

"This floral pencil skirt, so flattering and it pairs perfectly with this shirt and polka dotted card as well," said Meredith Paley of Talbots.

Meredith runs PR for Talbots and calls this a no-brainer.

"It's just an unbelievable thing, to be able to shop. Women across the country can clean out their closets and donate to help another woman," she said.

Meredith loves the skirt. Karrin loves the whole collection, and I especially love one of the necklaces.

"I love the pencil skirt, and what I love about the pencil skirt is that everyone looks good in it and it's a fabric that has stretch in it, everything is sized from 2 to 24," said Adam Glassman of Oprah Magazine.

And the waist with the ribbon was Adam's idea. "Because I think everything should be special," he said.

The line is at Talbots stores February 22nd and will be available through April 3rd. One third of the profits goes to Dress for Success, and be sure to donate your nice work clothes.

On Saturday, March 5, all Talbots stores across the country will hold "Spring Style Shopping Parties," where women nationwide can shop at 25% off (excluding the capsule collection), enjoy refreshments, and make donations to Dress for Success.

Donations of nearly new office-appropriate attire will be accepted at any Talbots location from March 3 to March 6, while monetary donations will be accepted at the register of each store through April 3.

Last year, through customer donations and a percentage of proceeds from store events, Talbots collected more than 4,000 boxes of clothing and was able to donate $500,000 to Dress for Success. This year, through the partnership with O Magazine, the goal is to double the monetary and clothing donations.
