Greenmarket Farmers Market returns to World Trade Center
Lauren Glassberg reports from the reopened farmer's market at the World Trade Center.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- For the first time since the September 11th attacks, the Greenmarket is back at the World Trade Center.

The farmers market opened its new location at Oculus Plaza Tuesday morning.

The market includes 11 vendors selling fresh, locally-produced food, including some who were working at the last market in 2001.

The market will be open every Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The market opened on Church Street in 1984, but closed after the attacks.

All the products are grown within 200 miles of New York City.

"It's a little bit eerie after all this time to be back, but it's great to be back and see some familiar faces," farmer Morris "Kernie Kernan said. "It's good for the heart."

When the first plane hit on 9/11, Kernan ran, leaving behind his produce, his trucks and his tents. But he says it's good to be back.

"It's time to start something back down here," he said. "I think it's a great idea."

The idea was years in the making.

"We're very excited to be part of this rebirth of downtown, to have our farmers market back up," said Marcel Van Ooyen, CEO of Grow NYC. "We've been in four different locations downtown since 9/11 trying to find a home, and we think we finally have."
