NYPD officers give out toys instead of tickets
A.J. Ross has the story of the NYPD's special surprise: giving out toys at traffic stops in the Bronx.

WILLIAMSBRIDGE, Bronx (WABC) -- You know that sinking feeling you get when a police car's lights turn on behind you? Some NYPD officers in the Bronx turned that into a wonderful surprise Thursday.

A toy drive in the 47th Precinct brought in so many gifts that officers had hundreds of extras to give the community. Christmas Eve turned into a toy distribution day for officers.

Some of them were given out during traffic stops for being "toy-less."

"I thought I was getting a ticket!" said one mom, who was pulled over and surprised with gifts for her daughter.

In addition to stopping drivers, the NYPD precinct was open for families in the neighborhood to grab some toys.

Officers also popped onto buses to pass out toys, while others handed out gifts to families just walking down the street.
