FRESNO, Calif. -- A Naval officer from California is spending time with his family after surprising his oldest daughter during her dance recital. Five-year-old Mikaela appeared to be in shock when her dad came on stage at the Clovis North High School theater on Saturday.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew Jepson was hiding in the audience with a rose in hand before the big reveal. He was deployed for 10 months on the USS Vinson and says his wife helped set up this special moment for their little girl.

"It feels really good," said Jepson. "I was nervous. I didn't want a YouTube epic fail, so I'm glad she remembered me and was happy."

Jepson has been deployed three times in the last four years and is not sure how long he'll be home this time. He also has a daughter named Jemma, who will turn 2 later this month.
