STAFFORD TWP., New Jersey -- A New Jersey police department is sharing a teachable moment one of their officers encountered that's opened up a dialog about respect, where it's learned and how it is enforced.

Janis Olson from Stafford Township, Ocean County posted this picture on Facebook and it's gone widly viral:

Her daughter snapped it on her bus ride home. It shows Officer Kris Smith speaking to another student on the bus.

When the bus driver pulled over to ask Officer Smith for directions around a detour, Janis says a student screamed "pig" out the window at the officer.

She says Officer Smith, a father of three, threw his lights and siren on and got on board.

The department tells our sister station, WPVI, he talked to that teen about the importance of having respect - for everyone.

The good news is, that talk ended with an apology and a handshake.
