LAS VEGAS -- Thousands of lanterns floated into the night sky about 30 miles northeast of Las Vegas during the RiSE Lantern Festival Saturday night.

The festival promotes bringing "light to darkness" by having people release lanterns at the same time that have special messages, prayers, dreams or other creative forms of expression on them.

It takes place on the Moapa River Indian Reservation, about 30 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The two-day festival brought in nearly 10,000 people last year, and it is estimated this year may have brought in about 20,000.

People who attend enjoyed food trucks, wine and beer options during the afternoon and live music that was handpicked by the festival organizers.
