Brooklyn cheerleaders need help getting to the national championship
Michelle Charlesworth has the story.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- When a Brooklyn cheerleading squad qualified for the national championship, the team was thrilled, but that excitement came with the realization that the cheerleaders needed to come up with lots of money quick.

"The Diamonds" practice for four hours twice per week, keep their grades up and raise money for charities and they just won regionals.

They even raised $5,000 for a member's bone marrow transplant and raised more money for their own $6,000 mats.

When after seven months they never got delivered 7 On Your Side took action and made it happen.

Their GoFundMe page has raised $4,000 for this trip, money they are so grateful people have given.

The cheerleaders love Coach Tracy. Many come from single parent homes and many live in the houses next to school.

Money is tight and earned opportunities like this do not come along every day. These kids say working so hard for something like this has taught them to take this intense discipline and use it elsewhere.

The girls mothers have seen grades rise, in part because Coach Tracy stays on them!

They are all proud, and hoping to be headed to Orlando for the nationals in early February.
