Crimson Tide's streak of 72 straight games ends against Georgia
Alabamaclosed as a consensus one-point underdog to Georgiaon Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas, ending the Crimson Tide's record 72-game streak of being favored.
The Westgate SuperBook had Georgia as a one-point favorite when the game kicked off at 3:30 p.m. The Bulldogs also closed as the favorites at MGM, William Hill, CG Technology and several other sportsbooks. A handful of shops, including Caesars and the Stratosphere, had the line at pick 'em at kickoff, and the South Point and Golden Nugget sportsbooks were the only Nevada books that had the Crimson Tide as one-point favorites. The majority of books in Nevada and offshore closed with the Crimson Tide as small underdogs.
It's the first time Alabama has been an underdog since the 2009 SEC Championship Game. The Crimson Tide defeated Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators in that game, went on to win the national championship and have been favored in every game since.
The 72-game streak was the longest active streak and longest in at least 40 years, according to ESPN Stats & Information and college football insider Phil Steele.
The Wynn race and sportsbook opened with Georgia as 1.5-point favorite Sunday. Early action came in on the Bulldogs, quickly pushing the line up to Georgia -2.5. But money on Alabama came in throughout the week leading up to kickoff.
On Friday, the MGM reported having 10 times more money on Alabama than Georgia. The action evened out Saturday, with MGM vice president of race and sports Jay Rood saying three times more money was on the Crimson Tide an hour before kickoff.
The action was similar at several Nevada books Saturday. At William Hill, 73 percent of the money bet on Alabama-Georgia was on the Crimson Tide. Two hours before kickoff, CG Technology vice president Jason Simbal said "2.2 times" more money had been bet on Alabama than Georgia. But the action wasn't lopsided enough to force the majority of books to make Alabama the favorite.
