TCS helping employees stay 'Fit 4 Life'

NEW YORK (WABC) -- This year, there is a new sponsor for the New York City Marathon: TCS, which stands for Tata Consulting Services, a global IT firm.

The company is putting its employees on track to be fit for life.

Months before race day on Nov. 2nd, there were already many moving parts.

Case in point: the Bronx 10-mile, where a small army from TCS was in full gear.

This is the company's inaugural role as title sponsor for the New York City Marathon.

"It's a city we are deeply connected with, we all come here all the time and New York is a true global city," said TCS CEO Natarajan Chandrasekaran.

He's not only the company CEO but, Chandra, as his team calls him, is running the race for the second time.

"I started running first casually, then I started doing marathons and now I do a couple of times a year," he said.

I caught up with the 51-year old at the ceremonial painting of the blue line. He told me about Fit 4 Life, an online fitness and health tracker, where employees can set personal goals, or participate in a team event.

"People take up running, people take up cycling, swimming, all kinds of physical activity," said Chandrasekaran.

It's working: the proof is in the numbers.

"We have 45,000 people, 45,000 people globally who've made a committment to leading an active, healthy lifestyle aligned with social causes," said Joseph King of TCS.

At the Bronx event, TCS volunteers were also front and center on the sidelines.

And on Nov. 2nd: "I'm going to have fun, that's the most important thing," Chandrasekaran said.

They'll proudly be part of race day celebrations.

"I do feel particularly excited about being one of the first people that NYC marathoners will see giving high fives and words of congratulations," said Maura Thompson of TCS.
