Sacha Kljestan scores late to lead the New York Red Bulls past Alianza FC

Sacha Kljestan scored a late goal to help the New York Red Bulls beat Alianza FC 1-0 in Harrison, New Jersey, in Group F play of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Kljestan, 31, picked up an endline pass from Gonzalo Veron and hit a well-placed, first-time shot from the center of the penalty area past Alianza keeper Oscar Arroyo.

The win keeps New York atop the Group F standings and means they just need a win or draw or to not lose by more than four goals in its finale against Antigua to make it to the knockout phase.

Honduras ProgresoensuredPumaswill have to work to make it out of the group stage, as an injury-time goal from Victor Moncada earned the hosts a 2-1 win over its Liga MX opponent.

Alfonso Nieto got Pumas off to a solid start in the 26th minute, slotting home from six yards out past goalkeeper Woodrow West.

Moncada, who had put Progreso back on level terms in the 57th minute, scored his second goal of the night from a free kick to give his team the last-gasp win.

Pumas will now need to beat W Connection on Oct. 20 to guarantee passage out of Group A, while the Honduran outfit are still very much alive.

In Group G play,HeredianobeatPlaza Amador2-0 to narrow the gap with first-place Tigres, who have a game in hand against their group rivals.

Yendrick Ruiz goals either side of half-time were enough for the hosts to cruise to victory.
