The New York Yankees selected outfielder Blake Rutherford of Chaminade College Prep (West Hills, California) with the No. 18 pick in Thursday night's MLB first-year player draft.

Scouting report: Rutherford has been considered one of the best prospects in this class for quite a while. He's older than most other high school seniors. Rutherford is a well-built 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, and is likely to add weight and power as he matures. Though he puts up some 55 run times from home to first right now, and it was once thought he'd have a chance to stay in center field, he is now very likely to end up in right or left field.
