1 dead, multiple others hurt in Newark stabbing spree
One person is dead following a stabbing spree in Newark.

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- One person is dead following a stabbing spree in New Jersey early Thursday.

It happened in the 200 block of Court Street just after midnight.

Police say the victim, 18-year-old Asahiah Lawton, of Irvington, was engaged in a dispute with a 22-year-old man over a 19-year-old woman from Newark.

Lawton was stabbed and then ran to the area of Jones and 14th streets.

He was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at at 12:40 a.m.

Police said several other people were also stabbed, but none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The exact circumstances of the altercation have not been released.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

At this time, no one has been charged.
