STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- Police on Staten Island are searching for a dirt bike-riding gunman who shot an elderly husband and wife outside their home Sunday evening.
Residents of the New Brighton neighborhood confronted several young men on motorcycles who were speeding recklessly up and down the block, and authorities say at least one of them returned and sprayed the street with bullets.
Pat Vamosy-Schmidt, 63, was struck in the arm, while her 71-year-old husband Ed was hit in the abdomen.
Both were rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, where they were expected to survive.
Police spent much of the early evening searching the scene and recovering spent shell casings.
No motive has been determined, and no arrests have been made.
