BAY SHORE, New York -- Authorities say a house fire on Long Island has left a 62-year-old man dead.

Suffolk County police say the fire broke out around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday in Bay Shore.

Police say several adults and children who lived in the home were able to escape but Curley Tutt was killed. He lived in a basement apartment.

Investigators say the fire may have started in the basement. It doesn't appear to be criminal in nature.
