BELMAR (WABC) -- On October 29th, 2012, Superstorm Sandy made landfall on the Jersey Shore, flooding streets, wrecking homes, and leaving several people displaced. Three years later, the last two families in the town of Belmar who were left homeless by the storm are back.
"The best feeling so far about being home is that my babies now have a place, and their safe haven back," says Teresa Keefe.
Keefe, a mother of three, along with Krista Sperber, a mother of two give all thanksto a fundraising campaign spearheaded by Matt Doherty, the town's mayor.
The campaign raised $340,000 in cash, materials and labor. Most of the people who donated were from across the country. It has afforded moments together that these families have not had for three long years- like family dinners. It has also been a source of inspiration.
Sperber says she now wants to pay it forward.
"There's families now that are facing foreclosure - fix this for everybody. There's thousands of families still homeless, so it's a sense of relief for me, but I'm not done fighting," says Sperber.
