Clifton police Lieutenant Robert Bracken said the tractor-trailer was heading eastbound when an accident took place, and the driver was either cut off or was trying to swerve to avoid hitting someone when he crashed through the concrete barrier into the westbound lanes.

On the westbound side, the tractor trailer hit a box truck and a BMW. A few cars sustained minor damage on the eastbound side.

There were three people injured in the crash, two seriously. Thankfully, they are all expected to survive.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was partially ejected and was found wedged in the engine compartment.

There are closures still in place on Route 3, with only one lane getting by. Traffic was backed up for miles as a result.

The delays are expected to last into the evening commute.
