1 dead, 1 hurt when car slams into pole and tree on Long Island

BRIGHTWATERS (WABC) -- Police are investigating after one man was killed and a passenger injured early Saturday in a crash in Suffolk County.

The male driver, 25, was operating a 2001 Honda CRV westbound on Union Boulevard when his vehicle struck a median, left the roadway, struck a utility pole and crashed into a tree in Brightwaters at 1:43 a.m., police say.

The driver, of Lindenhurst, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

The female passenger was also transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where she is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The identity of the driver is pending notification of family.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
