Car fire erupts in Weehawken
NewsCopter 7's Shannon Sohn is over the scene of a car fire in Weehawken.

UNION CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A car caught fire and then exploded on Kennedy Boulevard near inbound I-495 eastbound on the approach to the Lincoln Tunnel.

The vehicle was completely engulfed in flames.

Newscopter 7 was over the scene in Union City.

The car had apparently rear ended a NJ Transit bus around 5:45 p.m. on Route I-495 eastbound in Union City.

The bus had no passengers on it and was en route to the Port Authority. It was a 116 bus that runs between Port Authority and Perth Amboy.

Three people in the car were injured. Their conditions are not yet known.

Route 495 east is closed at Kennedy Boulevard.

Route 495 is the main roadway into and out of the Lincoln Tunnel.
