FAR ROCKAWAY, Queens (WABC) -- A woman and her two young sons were seriously injured when they were struck by a car in Queens Wednesday.

The crash happened around 12:20 p.m. on Seagirt Boulevard near Beach 32nd Street in Far Rockaway, leaving a mangled stroller and a banged-up car as evidence of the near tragedy at the scene.

Investigators said it appeared the Dodge Charger jumped the curb and plowed into the three people on the sidewalk.

"I seen all the ambulances when I came," witness Elaine Hewitt said. "I was driving by, and the bus driver said that he cut him off. The bus driver came back and told us he cut him off to make a U-turn."

A 2-year-old boy was the most seriously injured.

"He had a big old gash on his left side, there was so much blood," a witness named Tiffany said. "They put him in. The mother's legs looked like they were broken. They put her in the ambulance and took her to LIJ. That was pretty much it."

The 31-year-old mother suffered injuries to her legs and shoulder, while her 3-year-old son suffered a hand injury.

All three victims are expected to survive.

The driver, 18-year-old Amjad Saleh, stayed on the scene, and police questioned him and tested him for drugs or alcohol. He was arrested and charged with reckless driving, unlicensed operator and failure to yield.

The speed limit is 25 miles per hour, but people in the neighborhood said few drivers obey it.

The investigation is ongoing.
