NYC crews head out to fix potholes
Kristin Thorne reports the Department of Transportation has dispatched crews to all five boroughs to repair potholes.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- New York City was on pothole patrol Sunday, dispatching crews to make road repairs across all five boroughs.

The city Department of Transportation sent out more than 50 crews, targeting residential streets and arterial roadways citywide.

The DOT says it has already filled more than 96,000 potholes since mid-December and will continue its repair program until significant improvements in road conditions are made.

But the harsh winter weather has hampered efforts to get all the repairs done. City crews are trying to get as much of the work done before another storm makes for more treacherous commuting for Monday morning.

"I want to thank the men and women of DOT's roadway crews who are working around the clock to maintain the 6,000 miles of City streets during this harsh winter," said Commissioner Polly Trottenberg. "These tireless public servants have already repaired more than 96,000 potholes across the five boroughs and will be filling many more given the conditions we have faced which inflict wear and tear on our roads."
