NEW YORK (WABC) -- A section of the FDR Drive has re-opened, after Department of Transportation workers finished a job ahead of schedule.

Workers installed a steel beam to prevent trucks from hitting the 90th Street overpass under Gracie Mansion.

They had expected the job to require lane closures both Saturday and Sunday.

But DOT officials say that will not be necessary.

On Saturday, the work required full closure of the southbound FDR Drive from East 96th to East 78th streets.

The left lane on the northbound FDR Drive was also closed near the worksite.
