New Jersey police officer killed in multi-vehicle crash laid to rest

BERNARDS, New Jersey (WABC) -- Family, friends and brothers and sisters in blue gathered Monday to bid a final farewell to a New Jersey police officer who was killed in a car crash on his way to work last week.

Funeral services were held for Summit police Officer Matthew Tarentino, while flags in the state fly at half-staff in his memory.

State police say 68-year-old Archibald McGlashan, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, crossed the median Tuesday morning into eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 in Bernards Township. He was also killed, while a third man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The 29-year-old Tarentino is survived two children and his wife, who is pregnant with the couple's third child. He was posthumously promoted to detective on Wednesday.

A viewing was held for Tarentino on Sunday night.
