NEW YORK (WABC) -- The first week of Amtrak repairs is complete, and so far things are going smoothly, according to Amtrak's CEO.

Amtrak engineers worked to replace track panels (ties, rail and switches) in "A" interlocking, an area of tracks and switches that serves as the crucial sorting mechanism routing trains that enter Penn Station from the Hudson River tunnels and the Long Island Rail Road's West Side Yard to the various tracks and platforms in the station.

The time-lapse video (above) captured just over 48 hours of work that occurred between July 7-9, 2017.
