FLATIRON (WABC) -- A new workout in the Flatiron District will have you looking at the treadmill in a whole new way.
Treadmill classes are the latest group fitness craze.
The music is cranked, the lights are low, and the gym's once dreaded device is getting all the buzz. Think soul cycle, flywheel, but with running!
The dreadmill, it's different though, it's like a team in there with an instructor.
Runners set their baseline pace in the first five minutes of class which programs their whole workout. There's no constant maneuvering, just run with friends of all paces!
"I run all the time, usually lonely, it's a fun group environment," said Kate Canfield, a runner.
Every treadmill has its own program for that individual user so you could be running next to a person doing eight-minute mile while you do a 10-minute mile.
"What we want is energy and music and the instructor to take your mind off the workout, you just flow," said Jon Henwood, the founder of "The Run".
Olympic athlete Jon Henwood has personalized 60 programs, which he says help runners avoid the quick burn out.
"They'll put it up and sprint and they can't recover," Henwood said.
His technology basically puts a coach's brain inside the treadmill.
"I'll push you hard enough, but not so much that you can't recover," Henwood said.
"I usually don't like treadmills but this keeps you accountable," said Sammy, a runner.
"Definitely makes you work harder according to your pace, pushes you, the music, high intensity, it's great," said Nargus Harounzadah, a runner.
"The Run Studio" just opened. They have shaper, velocity, endurance, and will soon debut a couch to 5K eight-week program.
