Man accused of stealing from church donation boxes in Amityville, Long Island

AMITYVILLE, Long Island -- A Long Island man has been arrested on charges of stealing from a church.

Detectives say 49-year old Mark Spruill of Amityville entered Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Carmans Rd. Thursday evening through an unlocked door and used a large rock to smash open the poor boxes.

He allegedly removed an undisclosed amount of money from the boxes and fled the scene.

Spruill was arrested Saturday on charges of Burglary 3rd Degree, Petit Larceny, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and Possession of Burglar Tools.
