U.S. Attorney's Office holds meeting about Newark's Civilian Complaint Review Board

NEWARK, N.J. (WABC) -- In Newark, there was a community meeting Monday night to discuss the role of a federal monitor that will oversee New Jersey's largest police department.

Last week, Mayor Ras Baraka signed an executive order establishing Newark's first Civilian Complaint Review Board.

This is in response to a Justice Department investigation that found a pattern of unconstitutional policing, including the use of excessive force.

Monday night, the U.S. Attorney's Office answered questions about what the board's duties will be, and how it will be selected.

None of the board members will be current or former employees of the Newark Police Department.
