YONKERS, Westchester County (WABC) -- An early morning car crash into a Yonkers home led authorities to discover a marijuana growing operation.

The out-of-control car crashed into the front of the home Friday morning around 3 a.m. at 73 Shonnard Place.

Officers returned later in the morning with a search warrant after they noticed suspicious activity.

That is when they found a grow operation set up in the rear section of the three-story home.

Yonkers police seized dozens of marijuana plants and plastic tubes filled with harvested buds.

The operation may not have been the biggest, but it was brazen. It was set up across the street from a high school and four doors down from a police precinct.

The man driving the car told police that he had mechanical difficulties which caused him to lose control and crash into the front of the house.

He was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

It remains unclear if the home was occupied by the owner or rented out.
