CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A police car remained outside an apartment building in Brooklyn on Sunday night after a young girl was found dead in her fourth-floor apartment.

Around 1 p.m. police found the 9-year-old dead in the building on Lincoln Place in Crown Heights. Detectives say she had trauma to her body.

Bart Hubbach owns The Memphis Seoul on the ground floor, and he says on Sunday afternoon his employees noticed a foul odor in the eatery and called the building super.

"The super came and 15 minutes later, all the police and fire department came," Hubbach said.

Hubbach and other neighbors confirm a mother and her two daughters a 9-year-old and a 13-year-old live there with their two dogs.

However, Hubbach, who saw the trio nearly on a daily basis for two years, noticed something was odd about the mother.

"She would come out in fuzzy slippers and her hair done up like it was the 1960s or something," he said, "She was constantly screaming at those kids, all the time."

He said the two girls always looked scared.

"We felt bad - think a lot of people in the neighborhood felt bad for them," he added.

Now, police are investigating to find out what happened inside the home - and what happened to the young girl.

Officers are questioning the mother and her other 13-year-old daughter.

No arrests have been made.
