14-year-old boy killed in ambush shooting in Bronx

FORDHAM HEIGHTS, Bronx (WABC) -- A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed Wednesday night in the Bronx when he and his brother were ambushed by two gunmen, police said.

According to investigators, surveillance video shows two shooters jump out from behind a parked car as the boy and his 15-year-old brother were walking on Morris Avenue in the Fordham Heights section around 9:15 p.m.

Police say the suspects fired multiple rounds, striking the 14-year-old, identified by police as Prince Shabazz, in the chest, hip, and foot.

The teen was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His brother was unharmed.

One witness told detectives he saw two men wearing all black and masks open fire and then flee.



Eight 9mm shell casings and one fired bullet were recovered at the scene.

Detectives were scouring drill rap videos and investigating an ongoing drill rap dispute as a possible motive.

The number of minors involved in shootings in New York City has ballooned in recent years.

In 2019, there were 37 shootings carried out by minors and 47 minors were the victims of shootings, through September 1 of that year.

Through that same date in 2022, there have been 98 shootings by minors and and 119 minors have been victims of shootings.
