FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A man was killed when he was shot in the head during a block party in Brooklyn Friday night.

It happened at the Panamanian Pre-Independence Day Parade and Festival near the intersection of Albemarle Road and Bedford Avenue in the Flatbush section just after 10:30 p.m.

The 40-year-old victim was shot in the back of the head.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

So far, police have not announced any arrests.

The 27th annual Panamanian Day Parade was set to kick off at noon on Saturday at the intersection of President Street and Classon Avenue.

"Last night's shootings was an unfortunate incident that was not related to the official program nor sponsored by the Day Of Independent Committee of Panamanians In NY, Inc. (DICPNY) organization but by an outside organization with no official affiliation with DICPNY. We do not condone violence nor gun violence of any kind and pray for the family of the man killed as a result of this awful occurrence," Day of Independence Committee of Panamanians in NY, Inc. President Enrique Small said in a statement.
