WINDSOR TERRACE, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Eleven people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident in Brooklyn on Friday.

According to a preliminary investigation, two cars were headed westbound on Prospect Expressway just before 2 p.m. and were approaching 4th Avenue when they were involved in an accident.

Those two cars had pulled over when a third vehicle crashed into them.

That set off a chain reaction of crashes involving four other vehicles including an MTA bus. In all, seven vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police say the driver of the third vehicle was taken into custody at the scene and charges are pending.

Video from Newscopter 7 captured firefighters working to free at least two people that were pinned between a car and a guard rail.

All westbound lanes on the Prospect Expressway were closed.

Eleven people were taken to nearby hospitals. Two of them are in grave conditions while three others are critical.

An MTA spokesperson released a statement saying,

"A B103 bus was hit by another vehicle as part of a multiple-vehicle crash this afternoon. Thankfully none of the 10 passengers on the bus appear to be seriously injured. The bus has been removed from service while the NYPD conducts its investigation, with which we are fully cooperating."
