When officers arrived, they found the victim, a young woman, unconscious and unresponsive, according to police sources.
Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Jaclyn Elmquist.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
They believe the Elmquist somehow fell down the trash chute to her death.
The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the exact cause of death.

The victim did not live in the building, and it's unclear how she got into it in the first place.
"Definitely wouldn't expect that at all. We have great security in the building, our doors are always locked, we have lots of cameras, just honestly upsetting to hear that happened," one resident said.
No criminality is suspected at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
