Police responded to the 100 block of Wilson Avenue just after 8 a.m. Tuesday on a call of a carjacked vehicle taken with a child left inside.

An Amber Alert was issued at 9:55 a.m.

The Essex County Sheriff's Office said the child was found safe and unharmed around 10:30 a.m. in Jersey City about eight miles away. The missing car was also found.

It is believed it all unfolded when the child's father was delivering some parts to an auto shop where he works. He left the car running with the child inside when someone jumped in the car and stole the vehicle.

"It was not even a minute by the time he comes in the driveway, grabs one item, and takes off and goes back out and the car is gone," said Arthur Vatorre, the manager of Wilson Auto Parts.

Police tracked down the car that was abandoned by the suspect and found the child safe inside.

The father was reunited with his son after he was checked out at the hospital and said his child is OK and things are fine.

No arrests have been made and the search for the suspect continues.

Police are seeking the public's help to identify the suspect and released images taken from surveillance video.
