CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A community in Brooklyn is on high alert after police say one man is behind a series of attempted rapes and is still on the run.

The suspect is wanted for four attacks over a period of four hours in Crown Heights. Police say each time, he followed his victim through their front doors and into their buildings.

In each case, once the suspect gained entry into the victims' buildings, he attacked them in the hallway or inside the apartment. He told one woman that he had a knife.

All the victims were able to fight the man off, and one woman even sprayed him with pepper spray.

The man was seen on surveillance wearing a black shirt with a very distinctive message that uses the F word three times. Police say the man also wears a distinctive gold skull ring that one of the victims identified.

Anyone with information is urged to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
