Police say officers responded just before 4 p.m. for multiple shots fired near the parking lot of a McDonald's located at 340 Peninsula Blvd in Hempstead.
They found a 19-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the victim was hanging around the parking area when unidentified individuals came up behind him and started shooting.
They believe the shooting was targeted, but say it's too early to tell if it was gang related.

The incident happened around the time students would have been getting out of school, and some concerned parents of students who go to the nearby Hempstead High School, say it's a tradition for students to go to the McDonald's after classes.
"Our kids walk home from school, this is a place that they come get food after school and go home, it should be a safe place," Hempstead parent Unique Redd said. "There's too many guns on the street."
