Commute back to normal after empty NJ Transit trains derail at Penn Station

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- A NJ Transit train being moved into place by an Amtrak crew for the morning commute derailed in Penn Station overnight, causing delays for commuters.

The engine of the train derailed in the tunnel, approaching Track 4 at Penn Station, at 4:25 a.m. Wednesday. The train was empty at the time of the derailment. No injuries were reported.

The engine of the train derailed, and the rest of the train's cars are blocked tracks 1 through 6 at Penn Station.

Commuters experienced delays of up to 20 minutes as the train was being cleared. NJ Transit reports that trains are now operating on or close to schedule.

It is the first major incident since repair work began at Penn Station.
