BRIGHTON BEACH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A 76-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was shoved to the ground by a man walking a dog in Brooklyn, and police took a suspect into custody after surveillance video was released.

It happened around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, in front of 293 Neptune Avenue in Brighton Beach.

Vira Bezerganova was walking on the sidewalk at the location, and when the man turned the corner, he shoved her to the ground, unprovoked, causing serious physical injury.

"Come to me, some tall man, very fast," she said. "And too fast, come back to me and jump and push me. I fell down, and (hit) my head."

He then continued walking.

"So much, I have hurt," she said. "If I lay down, I feel pain, everything inside, and pain is here, not too good."

She traveled by private means to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island for treatment.

"I stay in Coney Island Hospital six days," she said. "I have trouble with my spine, broken...I cannot sit down, lie down. I afraid to go outside. It's terrible."

She is set to undergo spinal surgery later this month.

Police say 35-year-old Andrey Zaytsev was taken into custody Friday morning.

He is charged with assault.
