The pedestrian, identified as Lillian Muller, was struck while crossing in the crosswalk on Queens Plaza South at 27th Street around 5:25 a.m.
Police say she was hit by an eastbound Hyundai Elantra that exited the bridge onto local Queens streets. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 40-year-old driver stayed at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, but there was no immediate criminality.
The woman reportedly lived a few blocks away.
According to the New York City Department of Transportation, senior pedestrians are four times more likely to die in a traffic accident than younger New Yorkers.
Only 13% of the New York City population are seniors, but 39% of the city's traffic fatalities are seniors.
