3 homes go up in flames in fast-moving fire in Elizabeth, New Jersey

ELIZABETH, New Jersey (WABC) -- Dozens of firefighters battled a fast-moving fire in Elizabeth, New Jersey on Sunday.

The fire started around 3 p.m. on Smith Street.

Thick gray smoke blanketed the neighborhood after three homes went up in flames.

The Red Cross is assisting 22 families, and more than 70 people who were affected by the fire. They are opening a shelter at Elizabeth High School, Thomas Dunn Building.



It is unclear if there are any injuries, or what caused the fire.
