The flames broke out just before 6 a.m. Sunday, on the third floor of a six-story apartment building at 4879 Broadway in Inwood.
Firefighters say they had to battle the heavy flames and smoke, along with cluttered conditions, on the third floor of the building.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
