NEW YORK (WABC) -- After a slow start to the flu season, the Centers for Disease Control says flu activity is now higher than usual for this time of year.

There has been a steep increase across the United States, especially in the south.

As of November 25th, five children have died nationwide, and more than 500 people have been hospitalized.

The CDC recommends that everyone six months and older get vaccinated.
