NEW YORK (WABC) -- Embattled Republican Congressman George Santos is facing a new measure from Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) to permanently remove him from the House.

Reps. Ritchie Torres and Dan Goldman, from New York, joined as sponsors of the resolution, which the lawmakers said will be referred to the Ethics Committee.

"He does not have any credibility to walk these halls of Congress, he does not belong here," said Rep. Dan Goldman.

The resolution is likely the first piece of legislation that will be introduced to expel Santos.
"George Santos has no place in Congress," Garcia said. "He has lied about the horrific Pulse massacre, his connections to the Holocaust and 9/11, his qualifications for office, and faces serious campaign finance violations that he has recently all but admitted to," said Congressman Robert Garcia. "His continued pattern of fraud and deception is especially worrisome to our own LGBTQ+ community, and it's time we act and immediately expel him from Congress."

The majority of House Republicans in New York, like Long Island Rep. Anthony D'Esposito, have also called on Santos to resign.

"George Santos is a sociopath and at this point, enjoying all of the media coverage," D'Esposito said.

As Santos left his office Thursday on Capitol Hill, he said nothing to reporters.

"His colleagues want nothing to do with him, his constituents want nothing to do with him," said Torres.

Asked about the expulsion resolution, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says he hasn't been fully read in on it yet, but "it speaks for itself."

On another topic, Jeffries said he hasn't had a conversation with McCarthy about behavior of Republicans during the State of the Union, which he called "aggressive childlike petulant behavior" that "speaks for itself."

"I haven't had the opportunity to look at the precise language connected to the resolution," Jeffries said. "I can only imagine what it says and it certainly speaks for itself. George Santos is a complete and utter and total fraud and that fraud was perpetrated on the American people with aid and comfort from the extreme MAGA Republican establishment and they are still coddling him here in the U.S. Congress."

Gov. Kathy Hochul had a meeting with the New York delegation on Capitol Hill on Wednesday night. Santos was not invited.

The resolution will go to the House Ethics Committee which means it could land on the House floor for a vote.

"The American people have a right to know where each and every member of Congress stands with respect to George Santos," said Torres.

The mainly Democratic push for expulsion might be a long shot. Expulsion requires a two-thirds vote of members who are present and voting.
